Lazy Days!

We spent the last couple days being lazy, after all it is a vacation.  However they have been fun and had their own adventures.  Unfortunately not a lot of pictures because of some technical difficulties, but I think Mark figured it out for me so today should be filled with pictures I can post in the next entry.

Since we are here for three weeks, we had to start figuring out a routine of sorts, otherwise we'd be broke inside of a day and then no fun.  Being the school teachers we are we only have so much money for this vacation and eating out every meal can get expensive so we have been visiting the local farmers and the little markets, stocking up our little kitchen and except on excursion days, settling into a routine.  Being ADHD my life has always been about routines and trust me, you like me better that way. 😆  To make sure we don't over spend, our lazy days consist of breakfast and lunch in our cute little cabana, our butts in the sand at times, swimming in the ocean, reading books and writing blogs, going for walks and riding bicycles around the town.  We have chosen to enjoy dinners out, meeting the people and enjoying the amazing fresh food.  For those that know me well, I'm happy to report I have eaten fish almost every night so far.  Of course I didn't actually cook it so we are all good!   Today I thought I would share two fun stories that happened over the past couple days.

First, Thursday evening dinner time.  We had a few mini, well I actually don't know if they are mini or not, tropical storms the past couple days, bursts of rain and higher winds than the first couple days we got here.  Thursday was a big one but we did not know it until after it was over.  Anyway, we were getting ready to go out for dinner.  It was just starting to rain so thought ok, we will wait a few minutes and let it pass.  A few minutes went by and it still wasn't passing.  Mark said screw it we are from Oregon, what's a little rain besides at least it is warm rain.  That being said off we went to a popular little restaurant and bar called the Barefoot Bar.  It wasn't that far so we'll be fine.  Yes, the rain was warm, but in Oregon we don't usually get torrential downpours, and that is what we walked out into.  By the time we walked the short distance to the bar, we were soaked to the bone, warm but soaked.  We were literally wringing our shirts out and the lady at the bar offered us a towel, hair dripping wet.  However, upon walking into the bar, we got a huge round of applause for making the trip.  It was a fun evening and by the time we finished dinner and got back to our cabana, the rain stopped, but only for a little bit.  It rained through the night.  Our wifi was down and we didn't even really get time to touch base with the kids.  They were good though because Papa, Kaleb and Chelsea were teaching Christina how to play pinochle and Ksenia was hanging out with Emily.

Second, Friday evening's adventure.  So earlier in the day Friday we went for a walk for ice cream and to scope out this restaurant that was having a special event.  It was hot and muggier after the long rain through the night.  By the time we got back we thought the restaurant was going to be too far to walk and be uncomfortable sitting in hot sticky clothes while we watched the show so we decided against it and chilled for the rest of the day.  Dinner time comes and we start heading to eat.  We decide it's not so bad and actually quite pleasant so we will wander on down to the restaurant and see the show after all.  Just so you know, Belisean time is not the actual time.  It's kind of like Hawaiian hang lose time.  The show was supposed to start at 7 and finally around 7:30 the performers decided to start.  It was like a street performer type show.  It was fun and entertaining.  These people travel around the country from town to town and perform for their dinner basically.  The show was fun, but the funniest, scariest thing that happened in the show was when they were doing a fire dance, they caught their dog on fire.  It was completely an accident and the dog is fine, but you just never know what will happen in Belize.  To our surprise, our hosts showed up and we got to chat a little with them. We had a fun time laughing about things and how they are different in Belize versus the states.  To emphasize that, we were ready to start walking back to the cabana and they offered to give us and some friends of theirs a ride but they have a pick up truck and so we loaded into the bed of the truck and took off back to the cabanas, completely against the laws at home.  It was a fun night!!!

Today, Mark and I are going to photo document what is involved in owning/running a restaurant/bar in Placencia, Belize.  Stay tuned . . .

Love you all! Until next time . . .
